A School Project using the Silhouette
{My First School Project}
A few weeks back the twins’s teacher sent me home with two blank white pieces of cardboard. I was told to have the girls help me put together a board that told ALL about them. Well… the girls helped for about 3 minutes, lost interest, and I was left to finish things up, ha!
Is this a reflection of how things will go in the future with science fair projects??? eeek!
I have about EVERY tool, paper, and embellishment, to be a great scrapbooker… but alas… I am not.
Theres just something so intimidating about all those “cute” little pieces, that makes me crazy. I never know what to choose, or how to pair things up right, so that my paper pages look finished, but not OVERLY “scrapped”!
So for these little collages, I decided to use my Silhouette Machine to cut out some simple small vinyl decals, and paired them with a bunch of my favorite pictures of each of the twins, that I just printed at Walmart for a few bucks.
It was definitely more of a simple approach, but I think I like it better then all the paper and trimmings, this time around.
Sometimes it’s nice to just let the pictures speak for themselves ๐

Uh…yes, it is a sign of the future ๐
And, I can't wait to see/hear your reaction when they do projects on their own and it is not up to your standards…hehe…we've been there too!
Julie B says
P.S. I hope you get an 'A' on your/your kid's project, Mom! lol

Those are awesome!!! I love the font with their names… What a great keepsake for them, too. Maybe frame them for their rooms later?
Misty-Ann says
Sometimes simple is the way to go, and this was no exception. They look great!!!

The amount of scrapbooking stuff I have is ridiculous, but I still have no clue what I'm doing. I just wing it. My favorite pages are just collages that take me back and allow me to dictate my memories.
I think your pages turned out wonderful! Your girlies will love to to have this as a special memory page "time capsule!" ๐

They turned out great! What do you mean you're not a great scrapbooker?? Evidently you are! They are so many different styles … you just picked yours and excelled in it!

Coming from a teacher- this looks great. I'd be proud to hang this outside my hallway for the whole school to see.
Emily says
Okay, those are THE BEST spotlight posters ever! When my kids need theirs done, can I hire you?
Melissa @ A Dozen Years Later says
You did a great job!
Katie says
Adorable! I did my 4 year olds getting to know me poster very similarly at the beginning of the school year but I used paper instead of vinyl so I had to glue it down – I didn't even think of using vinyl!
Ben and Taryn says
I've been a bit of a stalker for a while and this is my first time commenting, but I just had to tell you how much I loved these. I have this very same task this weekend, to make an 'All About Me' poster for my little girl. I love how simple yet beautiful yours are. Thanks for some great ideas.
momoftwo03 says
You have such beautiful little girls. And you did a wonderful job on the assignment. LOL :))
Dee says
LOVE those posters! All the other kids/moms will be jealous.

Adorable! I'm the same way about scrapbooking, that's why I just design everything on the computer. I say whatever works ๐
Mallory says
Super cute! I don't know what you were going to do, but I don't think these are "simple", they look great!
Johanna says
These look lovely!
I don't know what it is about scrapbooking: I'd love to know how to do it and sometimes even see the end result in my mind, but – no. I've given up ๐
Ps. If you want to check out my blog's English version, you'll find the link in my profile. You'll soon find your vinyls there too ๐

Emberly is the cutest name ever!

very nice job ๐

Um, yeah…no skillz? Sister, they are adorable! With my kiddos, doing those for kinder star student week, my oldest wanted me to help and I pretty much was able to do most of it. My next daughter, when doing hers for kindergarten, wanted to do it by herself. She is the stubborn one. It was all I could do to sit on my hands and let her do it. I printed pics but the rest was up to her. Oh boy. But, she was so proud. I have always taken a pic of the girls holding their "about me" posters though. Then i can save it without having to save it for ever. (After letting them *cringe* hang them on their wall for a while.)
Michelle says
I love to scrapbook but I don't like all of the ribbon and embellishments. My kids are so cute- no embellishments needed!
Stephanie says
Oh my goodness, the other mothers are going to hate you! Those are so cute!
Unknown says
These look great! I'm sure the teacher will appreciate the hard work that went into them, even if it was mostly yours ๐ I was wondering if you will be posting a picture of your kitchen shelves decorated for Spring? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you will be!
Lorie says
Those are perfect! BEYOND cute! They will love showing them to the class!

Well dang, girl- yours look a heckuva lot better than my boys' posters do. Fab.
Kayleen says
I think that you did an excellent job on the posters and speaking from years of experience (I have a 25, 23, 18, and 15 year old) You are absolutely going to be finishing up projects for the next 12+ years. A little bright side note, my girls were better at keeping up with things than my boys, and since you have girls you might have caught a break. LOL
Mallory Nikolaus says
Your girls are so precious! They boards look great! A+! haha! You're such an awesome mom, Shelley!

Adorable! I do a similar assignment each year with my class and, trust me, teachers LOVE it when parents participate. And speaking as a mother, yes, you are in for a looong career of doing – I mean helping your girls – projects! Have fun!
Kristen says
You have to love these projects that are for the girls (but really for the moms) to do. I'm a pro at the Star Student posters now and the boys love to have them hanging up in their toy loft afterwards.
Deb says
The posters are fabulous…I know your girlies will love sharing them with their class. They might even take most of the credit if they are like mine were when we did a project TOGETHER! And about the science fair…BEWARE..I have HELPED with everything from the history of bubblegum to spiderweb design! I can't bare to toss them, I put so much work into them, maybe my grandchildren (years from now) will get some use out of them. Have a wonderful day!
Maddie Kertay- The Domestic Anarchist says
Looks wonderful.. simple, graphic and it lets the girl's shine. Best of all you are done! I am a digital scrapbooker, but miss the cutting and pasting at times. .. You did great!

Wonderful job! I think the teacher will be blown away. ๐ How cool that the twins have different colored eyes. All of the twins in my family are fraternal, so I never gave eye color a thought before.
Corrie says
I think you should frame them and put them in your house! Love them, great job.
