SNAP – She believed that she could…
This week is the SNAP – Creativity at your Fingertips blogging conference! I’ve been a big ball of stress for the past few months, but I’m SO HAPPY with how everything has come together. Now that I’ve finally gotten everything done that I was responsible for at the conference, all I can do now is just hope and pray it all goes as planned for the classes and panels I’ve coordinated. eek!
I haven’t had a lot of time to do much of my OWN prep, so I’ve spent most of the day yesterday and today working on personal items on my agenda to get ready for SNAP. Mostly boring things like, making sure I have all my toiletries fully stocked, getting my nails done and frantically shopping EVERYWHERE for clothes that are cuter than the ones I normally wear! lol. Conference fashion (for me) is a LOT of pressure! You know how most women admit that they dress to impress other women, and not men? Well, I think this is SO true, and 300+ cute, talented, trend-setting women all in one place, can definitely make for some AWESOMELY adorable clothes, bags and shoes… so I’m desperately hoping that I can at least blend in with the rest of ’em. ha!
Another project I’ve been working on are my bloggy business cards. If you’ve been to conferences, then you KNOW that business cards are basically the ONLY thing that you REALLY need to remember when you’re packing. They are SUPER important, especially if you’re networking with people or companies that you hope to make further connections with in the future.
I got a really great piece of advice from a business owner who spoke at a conference last year. She said, “I wish you bloggers would put your pictures on your cards! I can NEVER remember who’s card is who’s, so I just throw them all away”… Guess who she was basically saying it to? Yup… me. ugh. I was so embarrassed, but I knew she was right. How was she suppose to remember ME, at the end of a crazy weekend of 300+ people handing her their cards? Ever since then, I’ve always tried to put my picture on my card. ha!
Another thing that I’ve noticed through going to a bunch of conferences this past year or so, was that I always remembered the people who handed “stuff” out with their cards. Whether it was a small pair of earrings, a little piece of candy, or a cute hair clip. (usually something that relates to their shop or blog’s theme). So THIS time around, I wanted to bump up my “bloggy-business-card-appeal” and add a little something with my card that people could have and use!
I decided to go with a small vinyl phrase from our House of Smiths Design shop! During the past few months I’ve kept coming back to this little saying…
“She believed that she could, so… she did.”
I’ve talked a bit about this before, but so often WE are the only ones who stand in our OWN way. Am I right? Whether it’s decorating a room, losing weight, starting a blog or just simply introducing yourself to a new friend… the only person who makes us THINK that we can’t succeed at these things, are ourselves!
This simple, yet significant sentence has been a bit of a personal motto for me this year, and I think it’s something that can really motivate all of us, in one way or another – a little reminder that we can do whatever we set our mind to, so I’m including it in with my cards this year!
I just took a few minutes to adhere the vinyl onto a piece of pink card stock, backed it with a fun patterned paper and then put it all in an adorable Orange Blossom Shop frame, like so!
I was planning on having this in my office, but it would also look mighty cute in a little girls room ๐
Since I’ve been SUPER crazy-busy this past week, I’ve recruited all the helpers that I can find, including my little Aubrielle. Who knew that 4 year olds were so good at stuffing cellophane bags with vinyl and business cards!?
๐
I couldn’t leave this post without sharing a short video with you, that I secretly shot of my tiny helper singing her heart out. This little girl has enough personality for a small country, and she constantly keeps me on my toes, and most importantly… laughing ๐
I hope to meet ALL of you who are attending SNAP this year. It will be a BLAST, and kind of a dream come true for all of us girls who have made the conference happen. I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I definitely think that we all had to keep reminding ourselves, at one point or another along the way, that if we BELIEVED that we COULD pull this dream of an amazing conference together… then it WOULD happen – and it did.
๐
Have a WONDERFUL weekend everyone!
Oh, and PS. you can purchase a little motivational phrase for yourself over in our design shop if you’d like!
We’ve discounted them 50% off, for the weekend of the conference ๐

hmm. funny you should mention that we might get in our own way in something as simple as introducing yourself to a new friend… stamp in on my forehead! i'm so happy Brittany (Love Stitched) introduced me to you tonight! too often i fall victim to getting in my own way and it's pretty dang annoying. i can do it in my head, but when it comes down to it, i wuss out. :/ thank heaven for good friends, right? to help shove us out of our comfort bubble and allow ourselves to meet new friends. I'll be sure to work on the purse and let you know when i've got something good!! ๐

Hi Shelley, I have visited your blog numerous times but don't think I have ever left a comment. I had to this time because if you think for one minute you won't look as good as the other ladies, you need to just look in the mirror. I swear, you could wear a burlap sack with a few ruffles and look like a million bucks. You always look so stylish and I would die for your hair and adorable smile!!! Have so much fun!!!

Shelley, You were amazing at SNAP! I always saw you with a smile on your face. I said hi several times but never traded business cards with you since I knew who you are> But now that I saw this, I realized I should have stopped you to trade. Your cards are so creative and I love that you had your pic on them (I put my pic on mine too and made them into bookmarks). I love your vinyl quote and your card showcases your brand and style. Thank you for being a wonderful example in the blogging community and for sharing your talents and skills with all of us.
