Thanksgiving Shelf Decor 2012 + Creative Fall Ideas Linky Party
The walls are planked, (see DIY wood planked wall tutorial here) the shelves are back up and that means it’s decorating time! I have to be completely honest and say that I’m a bit anxious to move onto Christmas designing, so I kept my Thanksgiving decor pretty simple this time around; and surprisingly, I quite like it!
๐
I’m not completely sure if it’s the clean, streamline boards or the crisp, modern white paint on top of them, but I feel like I’m turning into a bit of a minimalist (don’t quote me on that, I’m sure I’ll snap out of it soon, ha!). I had a whole slew of Thanksgiving decorations set on my floor to play with and when it all came down to it, I felt like these few pieces were the only things that felt necessary, and right.
Natural elements in Jar – The Black Goose Design, Foliage – Tai Pan, Wreath – Joss & Main
Maybe photos don’t do the details justice, but the texture from each object is just… yummy to me.
Do you ever just love stuff so much you want to hug it or gobble it up? No? hmmm…
Books – Thrift store (simply remove old, worn paperback covers, to reveal a books pages for a quick antique-looking stacking element), Pumpkins – Zgallerie (also seen at HomeGoods), White Pitchers – Tai Pan
Because of my obsession with quotes and words I knew I wanted a meaningful saying to appear on our shelves… but I felt like a lot of the Thanksgiving phrases had already been “done”. Then, I stumbled on this one below. I painted a small board with Cornucopia yellow from Valspar, designed the vinyl and assembled the whole thing in just a few minutes.
You can get this quote from our shop, The House of Smiths Designs, but the last day for Thanksgiving orders is the 16th, so hurry-scurry!
Feather Sculptures – Target, Turkey – Tai Pan, Gratitude lettering – The House of Smiths Design Shop
Often we can’t see how fortunate we are until we really start counting our blessings one by one. Believe me, I’m completely guilty of this, so I’m not pointing fingers… but THAT’S why I love a small dose of typography, simple words and quotes around my home. They’re gentle reminders of things I want to remember each day.
Orange Frame – Zgallerie (leaves were gathered from our yard, pressed flat and then adhered to the glass)
So I guess in a nutshell, for me this Thanksgiving it was ALL about texture and purpose… and not as much about “the stuff.” Repeatedly I find myself getting hung up on trying to fill each little space with something amazing, crafty or new when I’m decorating (please tell me I’m not alone).
Who knew that sometimes, less IS more?
