DIY Blogger House Announcement & Breathing Space Retreat
As I mentioned before, this past weekend I had the opportunity to attend the Breathing Space Retreat at the oh-so-beautiful Daybreak Community, here in South Jordan Utah. Cason and I love EVERYTHING about this planned community. From the amazingly beautiful lake, to the walking trails and colorful homes… Daybreak has some serious eye-candy to offer.
The retreat this year was filled with fun hands-on workshops and classes. From cupcake decorating by The Sweet Tooth Fairy, to Style guidance from Becki at Whippy Cake and home decorating advice from award-winning designer Brian Clark.

During breaks between classes we even had the chance to hit up the Oh Sweet Sadie Art and Gift Spring show! There were TONS of fabulous things to be had… believe me, I spent a small fortune. lol

In addition to all the great hands-on classes and stellar shopping, there was also a ridiculously fun “Stepford Wives” themed dinner party on Friday night! I’m normally not one for themed parties, but this one I could definitely get on the bandwagon for!… especially with my cute, stylish friends by my side, sporting their best “housewives get-up” as well. ha!
Becki and Me
Something also REALLY exciting that happened the night of our Stepford Housewives party was a big announcement that I’ve been DYING to tell you all about!
In the next 90 days, Bangerter Homes, Interior Designer Brian Clark, and 5 of us local Utah DIY bloggers, (Jen, Lara, Amy, Char and myself) will be building and designing the first EVER DIY Blogger House for the 2012 Salt Lake Parade of Homes! Eeeeee!
A custom home can be expensive to build if done in a conventional way. Homeowners have been personalizing their homes on their own for years and finding innovative ways to create wow and develop wonderful spaces that donβt cost an arm and a leg. The DIY Blogger House at Daybreak aims to take that creative spirit and infuse it into the construction of a new home from the very start. The home will be built by Bangerter Homes and will be featured in the 2012 Salt Lake Parade of Homes. Daybreak is teaming up with the builder, and an award winning interior designer who will lead a team of 5 local bloggers to design the interior of the home. Each of the bloggers will design one of the rooms or be in charge of certain areas of the house, while the designer will ensure that the homeβs overall design maintains a cohesive flow and character. The bloggers will chronicle their experience and the process of designing the home on their blogs beginning in May. They will have less than 90 days to work with the home builder to develop and implement a concept in time for the Parade of Homes judging on August 1st. The home will be revealed to the general public during the Parade of Homes which begins on August 3rd and runs through August 18th. The home will be available for sale once the Parade of Homes has ended.
With the help of Kathy, Aly, and “the Boss” Cameron, Brian and us crazy DIY Home/Modern Craft design bloggers will literally be designing THE mostly stylish house in Daybreak! (or at least WE’D like to think so. ha!) It will be chuck FULL of amazing finishes, ideas, and big doses of DIY projects scattered everywhere, for everyone to get inspired by!
So far, things are moving along swimmingly! Yesterday they started pouring the foundation for “our house”, and just like when Cason and I built OUR first home, I KNOW I’ll be stopping by to check out the DIY blogger house progress, pretty much weekly… (if not more) ha!
If you can’t tell, I’m bursting with excitement and can’t WAIT to keep you posted with all the details along the way. We haven’t yet nailed down who will be designing what, in the house… but you KNOW I’ve got my eye on that kitchen pantry. haha!
π
This project also hits very close to home, not only because my parents live in this community already, and love it, but because Daybreak is one of the few places that our little family will forever remember cultivating lots of great memories in together.

I can't wait to see what all you talented women come up with and I look forward to the progress reports! And speaking of progress…YOU LOOK FANTASTIC! You can tell how hard you are working on your new diet and it really shows. I just wanted to congratulate you (and isn't it fantastic when you get to the point where you can feel okay with tucking your shirt in!). I know when you are in the middle of it you don't see the progress all the time…but just wanted to reassure you that all your hard work SHOWS…Mrs. Gorgeous!
As a little aside… your friend Becki look exactly like Debbie Harry of the group "Blondie!"
