From the Mouth of Babes
What I love about being a Mom:
Kid Questions:
Aubrielle: (thoughts on her new Princess underwear from Costco) “Mom? My princesses ‘prolly don’t get scared in the dark when I have my jeans on, cuz they gets to be all together in the same picture, right?”
Emberly: “Today during the assembly at school, there was this lady who had a ka-tar (guitar) and she called it Big Bertha. It was SO funny Mom!…. (silence)… “Mom? It’s okay to call a ka-tar fat, but just not people, pets or teachers… huh…?”
Jocelynn: “Mom? I know you’re getting skinnier, but where did your other NOT skinnier parts go?”
Embarrassing, Funny & Lovable:
Jocelynn:
We’ve been working hard learning how to read around our house. The twins have been quite obsessed with reading almost everything they see. They’ve been doing really well, and have even mastered most of the voice inflections that come along with end punctuation marks. (Kindergarten is amazing)
The other day we were reading through one of the girls’ beginning-reader Barbie books, when we came to the end of this sentence…
“…and Barbie was so happy!”
Jocelynn did a GREAT job with the sentence, but then I noticed she didn’t accentuate the exclamation point at the end like she has in the past. So I nicely pointed it out and then repeated the last word with an excited tone.
She rolled her eyes, looked at me, and then said…“Mom, I KNOW what an exclamation point does, but I just don’t like to pretend I’m excited when I’m not.”
LOL… Oooookay then.
Emberly:
The twins got an invitation to a birthday party a while back at school. They were SO excited to tell me about it, that they came bursting out of their classroom door, running and yelling into the crowded, parent-filled playground…
“MOM! We got invited to a CRACK party!”
“MOM! We got invited to a CRACK party!”
Here’s a pretty close example of the wording that was ACTUALLY on the invitation they received.
C.R.A.F.T, not Crack.
Guess the topic of this party got lost in translation, between a couple of 6 year olds… ๐
Jocelynn, Emberly and Aubrielle:
So we play this game sometimes in the car. It goes a little something like this:
Me: “I love you as much as there are stars in the sky”
Emberly: “I love you more than there are leaves on the trees”
Aubrielle: “I love you as many as all the cars in ‘dis WHOLE Utah!”
You get the idea right? Well, after Aubrielle’s ‘love comparison’ it was Jocey’s turn. She got really quiet, so I asked if she still wanted a turn. She said… “Hold on Mom, I’m thinking.”… then a few seconds later she replied with: “OKAY! I have the BEST one Mom!…
I love you as much as Jesus loves all the kids.”
I love you as much as Jesus loves all the kids.”
Yup… It was like a punch to the heart (in a good way). I was so happy, proud and a bit speechless, that before I could say anything Emberly piped in with… “Mom, Jesus died for us because he loved us. That was really brave, huh?”
Again, before I could speak Aubrielle chimed in with her pensive thought… “Momma, I wondered why Jesus always wears a dress all the time, and not ever any pants like Daddy and other boys?”
Once I gathered composure (this time from a silent giggle) I explained it was a robe and not a “dress”.
It’s ridiculous how much I love these sweet girls, and sometimes wonder what I did to deserve them. I also often wonder what they really think about their crazy mom who snaps a gazillion pictures of random walls in their house, while they try to play ‘horsey’… or their strange parents who take blogging and DIY’ing on with a vengeance… all while towing them along for the ride (even if that means that they have to be shoved underneath IKEA boxes for a 25 minute ride home)
Will other kids continue to look at my 4yr old strange when asked at school… “What rhymes with frog?”… and her reply is, “BLOG!” (?)
Either way, I hope that along the way, as strange as it may seem to them now, that through our examples of working together, accomplishing tasks and successfully supporting our family doing what we love… that we are teaching our children the concepts and principles of hard work, passion, creativity and most of all, love for eachother.
Do you write down sweet, innocent, funny things that your kiddos say from time to time? I think that besides the hugs and kisses, kid chatter and conversation has got to be THE BEST part about being a Mom. I feel beyond blessed to have these sweet, funny, personality-filled chicks in my life.
Happy Mother’s Day to each and every one of you!

I have a coffee table book in my living room that I fill with the funny, sweet, lovable things my kids say. And there it sits for company to pick up and read. Probably one of my most prized possessions next to my pictures of course. Their simple innocence through words are something that can be so easily forgotten though they are moments we as parents never want to forget! Everyone should have a "Kids Say the DARNEDEST Things" book or "From the Mouth of Babes book" in their home.

The perfect Mother's Day post! Thanks for sharing, it was adorable and sweet to read ๐ I do write down the funny and sweet things, and all the incorrect pronunciations like "leddow" instead of yellow, and "eye bulb" instead of eye ball! (That's one of the few words she still has wrong and hasn't figured out yet ๐ Happy Mother's Day!

I LOVE kid quotes. They are the best. Sometimes boys have funny ones to. I heard this from my roommate's 6yr old after his grandma kept asking him if he had to pee.
G-ma: well if you don't have to pee then why to you keep playing with it?
6yr old buy: IT likes it when I play with it!!!!
His mom and I looked at each other, eyebrows raised and tried to silence our giggles.

Ya know I used to be really into writing things like that..but recently I haven't. I saw this great memorabilia box on pinterest. I think I may have to start throwing those in as an idea

How funny and how sweet! I so wish I had known my girls when they were little. I became their step-mom when they were 13 and 15 but I have to say they've kept me "cracked" up for years! There's just nothing better than being a mom. Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

My girls spend tons of time with our next door neighbor children (because we are besties), and the other day in the car, the neighbor boy leans across my daughters lap and looks up into her pretty little face and proclaims, "I will totally marry you when we grow up… if you decide not to marry Justin Bieber."

What a sweet post! I so wish we would have had blogs when I was raising my 4 daughters. (we only had journals! SMILE)
I notice I'm much more aware of things now that I blog. Thank you for sharing such sweet sayings of your daughters. It made me smile and cry remembering my girls and the funny things they would say. Now I can smile and laugh at my sweet grandchildren and look at things through their eyes. You will ALWAYS be grateful you put such fun things down in writing.
Thanks for such a fun heartfelt post. Being a mother is the best job in the world!

I literally laughed out loud during this entire post! (Thankfully it was just me in the room and I didn't have to explain myself!) I too believe that hearing the things that come out of the mouths of my children make my job as a MOM the very best in the world! I cannot imagine having to work outside of my home and missing all those hilarious comments! Amazing post, as always!
