PS Target… I love you
Do you sometimes have those days, when you think to yourself…
“Self, today sucks… let’s go wander around Target,
looking at pretty things till we start feeling better.”
What? YOU don’t? Weird.
Target is like my therapy.
I’m pretty sure there’s something mysterious in the air that makes you lose track of time, your worries (and your budget). Their popcorn is DEFINITELY laced with something dangerously addicting, and don’t even get me started on their in-store Starbucks drink offerings.
Talk about a diet downfall
๐
That being said, even if I manage to resist that salty corn popped goodness, and overly sweet scrumptious cup o’ yum… I still seem to spend way too much on things I don’t need, but reaaaaally want. Can I get an AMEN!?
So… I’m sure you can imagine my utter shock, surprise and excitement, when I stumble upon end caps like these every once in a while…
Eeeeeee!!!
I don’t know about you, but shiny, pretty things with a 70% off sign in front of them, sure turns my “not-so-great-day” into a SUPER one. After a little jumping up and down, furious hand clapping and squealing… I started piling things into my cart.
I can’t quite recall the exact phrase that my 7 year old muttered out from under her breath to her twin sister, but I think it was something to the effect of… “Mom is so crazy about decorating stuff, why is she making that noise?”
To be honest, I think I was more excited about this clearance pile because it had a lot of things that I had been wanting for a while, but just couldn’t justify paying full price for.
See below:
Can you believe it? $105.00 saved, people! That’s pretty dang good if you ask me.
So did you know that there’s an “unofficial” markdown schedule for Target stores? I only found this out last year, and it seems to still hold pretty true. If you don’t have this info, but shop at Target frequently… pin or save this, you’ll be happy you did.
You can also read a lot more details on how Target marks down their goods, here.
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing some picture of our master bedroom nightstands that we finished, and you better believe that a few of my Target pieces are making a debut.
๐
Till then!

Amen! Target MIGHT also be my therapy… =)

I have that same conversation with myself! Always makes you feel better to buy a new tablecloth or kitchen towel, picture frame, lipstick, necklace, notepad, pens, or a movie! Target can be a dangerous place for unsupervised shopping! ๐
Lisa Joy says
DUDE, JACKPOT CITY!! That starburst mirror is gorgeous. I seriously can't believe ALL that goodness was just sitting there, waiting for you. ๐
K says
I don't go to Target nearly as much as I think I should… although I'm unsure if Target Australia is different. I love all home decor items! I haven't bought much being in a rental, but we're moving to another house in a few weeks, and I'd like to hang pictures and other things on the walls. I never did in our current house and it never quite feels like home.
Lisa says
Soo jealous! We don't have a target close by, but thanks for sharing photos….it may be worth a little day trip ๐
Shannon says
That's the exact mirror I've been eying at Target too…I do hope it's on sale here (Canada) too!

One of my stay-at-home-dad friends calls it "Target Time" when it's yucky out and his 3 year old is bored. ๐

Shelley,
I am soooo glad I am not the only one. Target is my retreat!!!! And all of the new Threshold things….I seriously have to keep myself in check or we will lose our house, but it will sure be purdy on the inside! Haha! Happy Tuesday!
Lisa @ Texas Decor says
Thanks for the markdown schedule!! I'm definitely saving that. ๐ You got some great deals!!
Nicki says
I love that sunburst mirror but I do not really care for the antiqued look of the actual mirror. Now that the price is so cheap, I can justify buying it and changing out the mirror. I am headed to my nearest Target to see if I can find it on clearance, wish me luck!
Lil Mama Stuart says
I had my eye on that gold vase too. Nice score!
Heidi says
Well done you! It's always great when you find a good deal.

Thank for sharing making me jealous. xo

Augh, I'm so jealous that you got that starburst mirror! I've been watching my target clearance section, but I guess everyone around here was willing to pay full price for it. Great haul, can't wait to see what you do with it all!
Oh, and I had a conversation with DH the other day where I told him, "Target is my happy place." I should start going on Tuesdays…

I have this same feeling! I love it when i have a bad day and i go to the gym and run for 30 minutes and then wander around Target (which is right next door) with my Starbucks and popcorn, by myself. FREEDOM!!!
Gwen, The Makerista says
i just bought that black nate burkus lamp for $14 yesterday! i know, i can never believe some of the deals. i know in some bigger cities this stuff rarely sees day two on the shelves, so i feel really blessed to get it at all, let alone a deep discount!
and there's something about the smell of target too. they all have a certain smell. i can never go in there without spending way more than i intended!
thanks for sharing!

Im so jealous! I was watching that Mirror, waiting for it to go down more and then they all disappeared! ๐ I learned my lesson, You gotta grab it when you see it.
Brittany says
I saw that same mirror in a damaged box in a woman's cart at Goodwill and almost cried….so sad I didn't get to it first! Quite a haul of goods you have there, hurray for target.
lizakarp1 says
I also got that mirror at 70% off. I can't wait to see how you style it!

Oh my goodness. I was eyeing that mirror. I'm stopping at our Target today to see if it's on sale. I'm with you on LOVING that store! I wish we had the Super Target, because it would be one stop shopping for me.
Nicole says
I have to admit, I know JUST what you mean. Love, love, love Target!!! And you can't beat the clearance stuff you found. Awesome!! Can't wait to see what you did with it.
Unknown says
I love a good Target day, and a clearance end cap is the best! I kinda search those out first when i wander around target. ๐ you're not alone.
Liz Michaud says
Glad to know I am not the only one. I do this with Target, Home Goods and sometimes TJ Max if I still haven't got enough retail therapy! ๐
Unknown says
squeal!! Target is my therapy! Although going without my 3 kiddos is very dangerous to my wallet! ๐
Pitter and Glink says
Target is most definitely therapy! I live in a small town, though. The closest Target is 45 minutes away, so sometimes I just settle for the local thrift store as my therapy. ๐ I can't wait to see what you do with your finds!

CUTE!!! I have been eyeing that mirror for awhile! I bought the Nate Berkus turtle shell after Christmas and I love it. On the weekend I saw it on clearance though ๐

So jealous but extremely happy for you!!!

I'm able to stay away from the food (unless they have Pizza Hut chicken alfredo – yum!), but those big red end-cap signs and tempting red stickers?! Furgettaboutit. They somehow trigger the opening of my wallet. Everytime.

Cute post! With you on the Target love! Luckily my toddler boys won't have any of it. But if I'm alone? Oh dear.

Most mornings I have what I call my "Target moment" where I just feel that I NEED to go there. Most mornings I'm able to resist, but sometimes I just have to go! You found some great things! Can't wait to see your room reveal.

I can't resist Target's clearance ends. I have to walk by them all when I visit. I never knew that they had a markdown schedule. My favorite day will be Tuesdays!

I heart Target. The air conditioning, the quiet, the fabulous stuff, all of which I NEED. What's not to love?
Did you check the outdoor section? There's probably tons of stuff for cheap now.
I must go soon and see what mine has in store!
Crystal says
I would go crazy too if I found a 70% off endcap at Target especially since it has Nate stuff!! How awesome!! I went with my daughter last week looking for fun stuff for her apartment. She found several things on the clearance spots. So fun!!
Melanie says
I was just at Target today and they didn't have any of this stuff marked down! This Target isn't a Super Target though. There may be a difference. Anyhoo, I did get a grill cover and patio pillows at 70% off though!
Unknown says
That's a pretty full 70% off clearance endcap. I'm impressed! And I love that you posted an "unofficial" markdown schedule. I worked at Target for 8 years on the planogram team (the people that set all the aisles. you know change Halloween to Christmas in 24 hours) and the pricing team. A good thing to know, is that this schedule varies by region. Some of the stuff is pretty standard, but some stuff has different days for markdowns.
For example, I live in the Southeast, and in most stores here the clothing schedule will match most of this chart. But instead of stationery on Mondays, it's on Tuesday along with garden and any other seasonal merchadise (this goes for all seasonal endcaps and anything marked individually. Wednesday is Housewares/Home Decor, food and health and beauty. Thursday is domestics, cosmetics and toys. Friday (at least here in the Southeast) is typically a light day and that is in case the team members have worked extra hours during the week or need to catch up on anything they didn't get to during the week. It's why you'll find departments like Automotive, Luggage and sometimes hardware on those days.
Another thing to remember, in most cases if you saw an item go clearance on a particular day it will not get another markdown for two weeks. There are of course exceptions, but that's how most clearance goes.
And, aside from clothes, everything in the store gets reset twice a year, usually about 6 months apart, so knowing whe that is about to happen will really help you know when to start looking for clearance in those areas. Most of the time these resets are not big so you may not even notice them too much, especially with areas like health and beauty and food. Cosmetics is in February and August. Toys is in January and August (I think). The August set is in preparation for Christmas, so the number of toy aisles increase. Usually they take all the aisles occupied by the summer toys and pools, so start looking for summer toys to go on clearance the end of July or beginning of August. In January, the toy aisles condense, so they have a bunch of the toys that were aonly around for Christmas that need to go. Start looking for clearance toys one two days BEFORE Christmas. When I worked at Target, we would go in overnight on December 23rd to clearance a ton of toys. When the store would open on Christmas Eve, most everyone was done Christmas shopping so they don't lose any money on clearancing before Christmas and they know everyone will be in the day after for Christmas clearances and will buy toys then. I can't remember when Housewares/Home Decor and Domestics reset but I think they are back to back and I think they are in April and October, but don't quote me on that.
And a final note, the seasonal sections (the front dollar section and the back next to where Christmas/Halloween/Back To School is located) resets approximately every 6 weeks! Want to figure out when they will reset? Right now, about the first or second week in July will be the "value" stuff. This is done again in January. They are basically fillers for summer and holidays with candy and costumes. The main seasonal area gets reset now (the first or second week in July) with Back To School, in mid-September with Halloween, usually Halloween overnight for Christmas (they sneak that in on you and do it all in one night if they can), followed by a slow transition to Patio Furniture. Hope this helps you even more ๐

Can you come and decorate my house please? thanks!

After working for target for 5 years only leaving to be a full time stay at home mom I have to be nosey when I see posts about target clearance because they are often wrong! Yours is pretty spot on though!! That schedule can change by region but if you ask your store what day they mark down a department they will gladly tell you and often the really good deals that have been lost in the back room don't make their way out until that night or the next day!! An I won't lie even being there fit 40 or 50 hours a week I always found time after work to wander an score a good deal!!!
Unknown says
I need women's clothes, housewares and snacks to go on sale the same day. And by "need" I mean I don't need because my wallet will cry!
Thanks for the information!

Great finds! I think everyone in my area in onto the markdown schedule, because I rarely stumble across these kinds of awesome clearance finds! Though I did snag some mercury glass votive holders after the holidays for about $2 a pop.

I am so glad that I am not the only one who has Target therapy sessions! That end cap is PURE perfection! I have had my eyes on that mirror for months. I need to hit up my Target tomorrow and see if there are any left at mine.

I have meant to say thankyou for this post! After seeing your post, I went to our new Target in Canada (only have been open a few months now) and bought two of those Nate B. turtle shells for only $11+ each! I had been eyeing them but didn't want to pay full price as I knew that I would want to paint it a different colour if I bought one. They will go well with our home's Beach House theme!
