Our HGTV Clean Freaks Shoot & March Photo-a-day Party Announcement

So, as promised, I said I'd share a little bit more about our HGTV shoot that I mentioned at the end of our last post. First, I have to say that it's got to be the HARDEST thing in the WORLD to be able to do something really exciting, and then have to keep it a secret. ha! Short of a few family members, close friends and 2 readers who put the puzzle pieces together after seeing Sabrina's updated twitter profile pic that she posted (a quick shot I took of her relaxing on our couch)... I wasn't suppose to say anything!

PS. I'm STILL crazy impressed that Lauren and Tina recognized that it was OUR couch from that photo. ha!

So here's the story. Last June I was contacted by a production agency who was looking to cast a few self proclaimed "super organizers" in an upcoming HGTV special called "Clean Freaks". I have to be honest and say that I was a bit hesitant at first, because even though I LOVE a clean, organized house... I'm not necessarily a "freak" about it. But after a couple of emails back and forth the producer had decided that our homes story and easy DIY tips would definitely fit the bill. So at the end of July, before we knew it, we were booked for the show and now COMPLETELY freaking out about getting our house as clean and organized as humanly possible. lol.

Around the last part of July we hosted a slew of camera men, lights, people and of course ... cute little Sabrina Soto in our home. I've done a few TV things with our local morning show and news spots in the past, but this type of national tv production was SO much different. Everything moves really fast, you have to shoot things multiple times (even if it feels totally awkward) and setting up for shots from room to room takes a lot more time and strategy...
I LOVED it. ha!

Don't get me wrong, it's really hard to watch yourself on TV after everything is said and done, but actually DOING the show was a blast! Sabrina and I hit it off right away (I guess when you both have a passion for decorating, being social and making things pretty...it's easy). She made everything really fun, and the production team was not only completely amazing, but hilarious as well :)

While I can't seem to find a clip of the actual show (I'll still keep my eye out for one), I do have a little footage of my own that I took of Sabrina shooting some comments about our home, at the end of our episode we did that day. Gosh this girl is talented, has the cutest personality and always comes up with the greatest lines, right on the spot. I know it goes without saying, but she's definitely a pro.... and jeesh, talk about the best compliments that a girl/blogger could EVER receive!... :)

I will admit that the whole thing seemed a bit surreal. After all the cameras, lights and pretty people were gone, Cason and I plopped down on the couch (in our now strangely calm, super-clean, empty house) and both just started cracking up. It's been a while, but I recall a conversation much like this taking place:

Cason: "What just happened?"
Me: "I dunno, but I think we're gonna be on TV."
LOL

Really, in a BILLION years we never would have thought that this opportunity would have come our way, all just from doing something that we LOVE... Keeping a clean/organized house, trying to make it look pretty (so that as a stay-at-home-mom I loved being in it everyday) and then photographing and sharing our life and ideas with others. As I finally watched our segment when it aired, I couldn't help but get a little emotional. We feel SO lucky and blessed to have such amazing opportunities in our lives.
I tell people all the time, that if for some reason our blogging 'career' died tomorrow, you would most definitely find me running down the street throwing fist-pumps into the air, screaming:
"WHAT AN AWESOME RIDE!" ...and then only moments later discover me walking in mindless circles, wondering what the heck to do with all my free time... ha!

What I'm trying to say, is that we have never taken any of this blogging business for granted and most days feel like we're "tricking" people, because we're just normal, boring folks who have a fancy camera, and need some place to put our ga-zillions of pictures :)
Even though we may not express it as often as we should, EVERY reader who finds us worthy of their time, EACH sponsor who discovers value in our work, and all of the opportunities that we've had... mean the WORLD to us.
Cason and I have a little motto that we repeat frequently to each other:
Thank you for any and all support that you've thrown our way in the past few years. We are constantly amazed by the dedication and love that you, as readers give us.
Oookay, on a WAY LESS mushy note, get your March Photo-a-day picture round-ups ready!

We'll be hosting our March photo-a-day linky party this Friday the 6th, and we're ready to see what you've been up to this past month! In case you need it, here is April's list of topics, once again brought to you by fatmumslim.com.au.

Happy April everyone!

  3. Oh my gosh, I was SO excited watching you last night - I texted my mom "My friend is on TV right now!!" (and then had to do the whole weird explanation of 'well, I know her from her blog, but I did meet her at Creative Estates too, so that counts as a friend, right?') Haha... Anyways, you were a natural! You need your own DIY show for sure!

Then, when the promos came on and I saw you and your home, I flipped out. I immediately had to tell my husband. I was super excited for y'all, and what a beautiful home. My husband and I are in the beginning stages of what y'all have completed. Awesome job!!!!

  64. awe! i love love love this post!! it really touched my heart!

i just started blogging in november and am really enjoying the ride. so your quote really hit home for me. i am blogging about what i love - organization...and how being organized saves big money. and i also love to inspire people that join me and read along. maybe they come through once or twice, or daily...but it feels so good to share what i am up to each week and see that i have made a small difference in their life.

and i get so much inspiration from YOU guys! so thank you!!!

i had been meaning to come over here to tell you your pantry is what inspired me to add a wall stencil inside. i had already been planning to reorganize the pantry, but when i saw your pretty wall stencil - i had to do one for myself. it was super fun! and didn't take as much time as i thought it might. so thank you for giving me the inspiration to add something pretty inside the pantry. we love it!!!

    thank you!!!
