Salt Lake City Parade of Homes 2012
I swear, each year I tell Cason “We’re NOT going to miss the Parade of homes tour”… yet it never fails, we end up forgetting or running out of time. But THIS year, (especially since I was involved) we were going to see as many houses as humanly possible all on our ONE kid-free Saturday!
muah ah ah ah.
If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook, then you are probably already schooled on most of the houses, since I posted updates throughout the entire day, but for those of you who missed it, and don’t live anywhere close enough to come see them… here were the houses that we toured, along with images of things that we liked in each.
Lunch break ๐
Tired, hungry, sweaty, overwhelmed with great ideas… but feelin’ like Parade of Homes rock stars! We visited all but 3 houses in under 9 hours! whoot whoot!
The parade of homes goes through the 18th of August and you can purchase tickets here or at some of the houses’ locations. If you’re in the valley and only have a small amount of time dedicated to seeing the homes this year, here are our top picks:
My Faves: #5, #7, #12 and #14
Cason’s Faves: #6, #8 and #22
ALL of the homes had great things to offer, even if it was just a cool piece of decor, unique decorating style or a simple molding idea; that’s why we TRY to hit them ALL. It was definitely a marathon and something I DO NOT recommend small kiddos doing with you (especially on a Saturday). But that being said, all the houses are family friendly and DO allow children, if you need to bring them; just watch those little hands, there are LOTS of breakable, pretty things to touch
๐
Also, if you DO get a chance to see the houses this year, and feel so inclined to give us (House #12) your vote for the people’s choice award, we’d love to have it! It only takes about 3 seconds to enter, thanks!
In closing, here are some of our favorite features that we found:
Glass kitchen tile backsplash
Gray and white piped chair with silver standing lamp
Beautiful teenager bedroom color scheme with awesome upholstered headboard
Cozy, cottage backyard with hanging lanterns and lots of character
A playground for kids… right in their bedroom!
Double stair exit from second floor. One to the front door, one to the kitchen.
Tufted upholstered bench at kitchen table.
Hopefully some of these photos give you ideas for YOUR next home design project too!

I can't believe how many homes are in your tour – I'm so jealous! I think there are only 5 or 6 homes in Homearama here this year, and I'm just giddy that we're HAVING a Homearama. We haven't had one in years due to the market downturn.

How did you miss 21? Favorite kitchen of all time. You have to go see!

You have inspired me to check out the Parade of Homes here in the Milwaukee area!! We are going to be buying a new home in the next 6 months, and sometimes having ideas makes looking a little easier.
Also, what kind of ap do you use to get your pictures to post like that, and with the words.

Just received the latest issue of This Old House in the mail and was delighted to see your entryway as a featured project! I turned the page and thought, I know this entryway (ok, I thought- I recognize that yellow bag– it's gorgeous!) and knew it was yours before reading. Well done!

There were a lot of cute houses this year. The blogger house was my favorite and most memorable. Did you happen to stop at the 20,000 sq ft house in Draper? They had golf carts escorting people up down the street…

Love the angled book shelves from house #15, it looks as though it's around a window or door? Does it span the entire wall?

Love your blog! I have a question for you that really doesn't relate to this post, but here goes…How did you do your light fixture above your sink? It looks like it used to be a can light. Mine is currently a can light and it seems like every fixture I find has a ceiling plate that is too small to cover the hole left by the can light. Thanks so much!

Hi Shelly, I have been going to the Salt Lake Parade of Homes since I can remember. My Mom used to take me with her to look at all the pretty homes. One of my all time favorites had a light pulsating disco floor. Another favorite was from just a few years back, it was on South Mountain and had an amazing infinity pool complete with a water slide and secret grotto behind a waterfall. Last year's "Up" House was a big one that will always stand out in my mind. Of course, I love the DIY Blogger House! It will forever stand out in my mind too. It's so fun to see posts from my favorite bloggers in person.

Ooh, I remember the grotto house. My fav is still one in Sandy a few years ago that was a large craftsman style that had a giant crafting room behind the kitchen with a great view out to the backyard. I may not make it this year, but I guess it means I won't feel as bad about my small, regular house!

Shelly, you missed one of the highlight homes for me, #21. Of course, #12 will get my vote (!), and I LOVE what you did with it. I had to get a pic of the mixer in the pantry that is on my pin board ๐ Even my kids recognized it! But, go back and check out #21 before it ends! Thanks for posting these pics, they just make me happy.

Well dang it all if I didn't miss it all together. I try to go every year. Way to go for getting to all but 3 of them. Glad you shared so many photos and a some favorites. Maybe I will make it next year.
