Running Scared – Our First 5k
Wanna know a little secret (that I guess won’t be a secret much longer, ha!)?
I’m going to be doing my FIRST 5k in October.
๐
I know, I know… it’s only 3 miles, and I’ll actually be doing it with my hubby and kids (so that probably means more walking than running) but hey, I’m going WILLINGLY and let’s be honest, this really isn’t something that I would have even attempted to do a year ago. Plus, how can I turn down a race that pretty much has the exact theme of how I feel when it comes to my first 5k?
๐
What’s my point in telling you? Well… I want you to come too! If you’re thinking “Pshh, a 5k is a walk in the park for me” then no worries, there’s a 10k race too. Here’s a little more about the event:
The race is called Running Scared
(because it will take place the weekend before Halloween!)
When: October 27th, 2012
Location – Herriman (Tuscany Park)
Course – The entire run is in a low traffic residential area. The course stars and ends in Tuscany Park. Parking is available at the park, at Silver Crest Elementary school, and at the nearby splash pad.
Time – The race starts at 10:00am (so it won’t be too cold)
Cost – $30 for 5K and $35 for 10K; price includes a shirt and finisher medal. Kids seven and under are free! (they won’t receive a shirt or medal, BUT you can order both for only $10 when you register)
* The races and entire event is family friendly and there is a non-competitive division as well as a competitive division that offers a cash prize!
* Strollers and kids are welcome
* Costumes and Halloween themed wear is super duper encouraged!
Post-Race Fun – Includes a carnival type atmosphere! Face painting, Games, Prizes for all.
You can get all the info to register and even a $5.00 off discount code from the Running Scared website, Running Scared Race.com. Just enter ‘Smiths’ at checkout.
Note: Code expires on the 15th of October.
My cute friend Veronica also talked all about it in her latest “Fun Things to Do in Utah this October” segment on Studio 5.
So what do you think? Are you planning on coming and participating, so you can use the excuse…
“Yes, I’m going to have that Snickers bar because I ran a 5k today!”
…like I am?
๐
Cason and I have been trying to get extra walking/jogging time in, and I figure that even if my silly foot gives out, starts hurting and I end up walking the whole thing, it’s better to do something, rather than nothing at all, right?
If you can make it, we hope to see you there!

Good luck to you! I am running my first 5k in 15 years on Oct 21, The Color Run and my second on Oct 27, Susan G Komen Race for the Cure! And I am totally using those as an excuse to have something GOOD!

Thanks Girly! Good luck to you too!

I made a goal to run a 5k by the end of the year and I haven't been doing anything to make it happen. You are so inspiring and I think I'm going to register for something now. Even if I walk the whole way I'll still have done it, right?! ๐ Thanks so much for being an inspiration!! Keep up the great work! xoxo

Good for you!! I ran my first 5k a month ago and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was gonna be. Then I came home and had two donuts.
Cuz I just ran a 5k. ๐
Good luck and can't wait to read about it!

Have fun! I just had to swing by you blog today to tell you thank you for blogging. I LOVE your blog (ok fine, I'll admit, it's my FAVORITE blog) and get so excited whenever I see you've made a new post. You are super fun and creative. Not to mention that your life style change is totally motivating me to want to loose the baby weight. Keep up the amazing work!

You look fabulous! No one should look that good working out lol. Good luck ๐

Love it! That sounds so fun, and a lot more kid friendly than the Run for your Life Zombie run that I've heard about and am too chicken to join! My first 5K was brutal, but so rewarding, then I ran in the Color Run which was awesome! Good luck, and have fun!

Love it! Much more kid-friendly than the "Run for your Life" Zombie runs (the one's I'm too chicken to join). My first 5K was brutal, but SO rewarding, then I went on to run in a Color Run and Mud Run, which were awesome! Have fun, and good luck!

So proud of you!!! 5K's are the BEST!!! Not TOO long so that you are DYING and bored and not to short that you feel like you didn't get your moneys worth! ๐ If I lived in UT I would SO run it with you! We just ran the Hero's Run last week! (supporting Cops and Firefighters-Wohoo) If you EVER get the chance, run the Dirty Dash or the Color Run! Two of my FAVORITE runs!!!!! You are AWESOME and I am SO impressed! Keep it up girl! So I HAVE To know….what will you be dressing up as??? Or is that a secret?!?!?!?!

This is awesome! Once you start doing runs you will want to do more. Trust me. I started off running 5k and I just finished the Disney Tower of Terror 10 Miler on Saturday!! I've been a runner for years and I am now moving into longer runs. These are a fantastic way to set fitness goals, meet new people and get out and get some fresh air with those that matter the most to us! Looking forward to hearing how you like it. Best of luck to you! Kim @ GlutenFreeBooty.com

LOVE! costumed 5K races! We live near Salem, MA and they have a Devils' chase road race. We did it before when I was in a little better shape. It's 6.66 miles – I'm not sure if I'll be physically ready for that this year, but we'll see! Maybe the costume watching will keep me going.

Three words…..YOU INSPIRE ME!!!!!!

I won't be making it out to the Wild West, so good luck to you on your first 5k! Just when you think you can't make it…you will, trust me; and you will be so proud when you do. It's an accomplishment not taken lightly. Oh and the Color Run is so far my fave. If you can find one near you, do it! Take the girls, it's a blast

WOOHOO! I just recently ran my first 5k for Susan G Komen. It was amazing! Even if you do walk, you will feel so good when you have finished! I pray you and your family have a wonderful experience ๐

I just found your blog! I am in love! I found it via searching for "change" on Google. I see your "change" and I'm super proud of you! I know what it's like to lose weight when you have little ones at home. Yeesh!
I'm doing my first 5K in November (on Turkey Day). So cool that I just found you and we're both up to the same thing.
GOOD LUCK! Keep us posted on your progress. It'll be fun no matter what and the challenge is great at keeping you focused. ๐

I agree! I'm worried I'll be the last one across the finish line, but maybe no one will notice. ha!

you go girl – running a 5k was on my resolution list this year as well as a few other things i didn't get to…i can't wait to hear all about it and see the pictures!!
ikylilcrafter says
good for you! I ran my first 5k around this time last year. (I finished like second to last!) But even though I was S-L-O-W I was so glad I did it. I did a half marathon in May and have signed up for another in March. Whatever you do, don't try to compete with anyone else. Dont' worry about all those people that sprint out at the starting line, you'll pass them later, just run your race at your pace and enjoy every minute of feeling like an ATHLETE!!

You go girl!
I stumbled onto your blog from Pinterest. I decided to poke around a little bit…I am SO glad that I did. Thank you for reminding me that it is so important for us to lead by example to our children! I have been a Mommy for a long time (I have two boys 18 & 5 and two girls 16 & 12)…it really hit home about the fat comments/food.
Good luck on your 5k!!! There is nothing quite like crossing that finish line!!! Like I told my one friend….the goal is to finish on your own accord…and if you have to walk across the finish line because of that silly foot, well, guess what? You still finished!!!! I have not been running in a year and I keep putting it off…thank you for inspiring me to go and put on those Asics and get out the door!!!!
Deanna =)
