Apple, Brie & Honey Nut Appetizers!
On our Princess Cruise we had the MOST amazing food. Like… seriously, it was hard to not indulge every 5 minutes in some sort of yummy treat. Cruises are famous for having awesome food, but I honestly have to say that I haven’t eaten THAT good in a long time.
There was one night where we ate at the Chef’s Table, and I think it was my all-time favorite. It’s a super fancy experience with 7 courses, and basically everyone around the table being spoiled rotten by the top chef and his stunning creations.
One of my absolute favorite courses during the dinner was this sweet and salty, nutty, glooorious fillo dough stacked tower of amazingness!
(yup, that’s the technical name) ha!
The second I ate it, I whispered to Cason that I wanted to try and duplicate the recipe once we got home, to see if I could pull off making something really similar.
Well… I think we did it!!!
Introducing my version of an Apple, Brie & Honey Nut Appetizer!
Don’t they look so fancy!?
Well… they are… aaaand they aren’t. ha! We made these in about 15 minutes.
Here’s what we used and how we did it:
FILLING:
– 1 package of mini fillo dough cups (freezer section)
– About 1/4 cup of brie cheese. (I used a little less than half of a small wheel that we got from the store.)
– Diced green apples
Fill pre-cooked fillo dough cups with a small bit of brie cheese. Then add a few slices of green apple and top that with a bit more brie.
CANDIED PECANS:
– Small bag of whole pecans (or walnuts)
– 1/3 Sugar
– 2 tablespoons butter
Melt down butter on medium heat in pan. Then pour sugar into melted butter and stir on medium heat until almost liquid. Then add a small bag of whole pecans or walnuts and stir them around till completely covered in sugar and butter mixture. Once sugar is completely melted, remove from heat immediately and pour onto wax paper.
Once pecans are completely cooled, lightly press one on top of each filled cup.
BAKE:
With your oven preheated to 350, bake your filled fillo cups for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and warm all the way through.
HONEY GLAZE:
– 1/4 cup honey
– 1/4 cup powdered sugar
– 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Stir together slowly until thick and gummy looking. Then add a tablespoon of hot water, while stirring constantly. Continue to add hot water little by little, until you obtain the consistency you want.
Drizzle a small amount of honey glaze mixture over each warm fillo cup, and then ENJOY!
I must say so myself, that these are pretty dang awesome. They have a crisp, buttery texture and are the perfect pair of salty, sweet and tangy. All the flavors work perfectly together!
Try these out the next time you have friends over, or throw a party. I have no doubt everyone will be impressed ๐
xoxo

Sounds delicious! I will definitely try this. I have a similar recipe with Brie, dollop of hot pepper jelly and topped with slivered almonds in the fillo cups…..love them!
