Fabric Spring Art + March Silhouette Deal: Fabric Interfacing

I'm so glad that you all are loving the monthly silhouette deals and new products.  Last month I featured Silhouettes frosted vinyl, on a decal I created, and I've even gotten emails with some of your fun projects, that you've made with yours!
You guys are such a creative bunch!

Well, this promotion is no exception!
I'm sure you've all heard about the exciting new feature that Silhouette is able to do.
Ohhh... the possibilities!

I thought I would try the technique out for myself, to create a simple little "Spring" plaque, for our home.
I found some good tips and tricks on the Silhouette Blog, on how to iron on the fabric interfacing, to prep my fabric, and such Here and Here.

For my project, I started by cutting a piece of thick cream fabric out to fit the size of my frame.
Then I chose a cute little bird design from the Silhouette library.
(they have TONS of designs!)
and picked a "springy" fabric to cut that out with.

Then... pretty much, just to see HOW detailed this Silhouette could go, I used an intricate "Spring" font, and cut it out in dark grey fabric.
I was really surprised, it cut it SO well, and didn't catch, or fray the fabric up at all!
I used a speed of 3, and a thickness of between 30 - 33.

Then I laid out the design how I wanted it to appear in my frame.

After that, I took a hot iron, and pressed everything down, for about 30 seconds or so, to bond the interfacing to the cream fabric, well.

And that's it!
Add a cute frame, and you're done!

I love all of the great possibilities that you have when using fabric that you don't get, when simply using vinyl, for certain projects.  The colors and designs are endless, when you have lots of your own fun fabrics to choose from.
There are a couple of promotion options available, this time around, from Silhouette.

  11. My husband and I just re-created your Chunky Shelves and I love them! Thank you so much for sharing the instructions and the idea, I'm sure it won't be the last thing of yours that I re-create! Check it out here http://simplyharris.blogspot.com/2011/03/i-saw-these-really-incredible-shelves.html

  12. Hello there, Shelley. Love the Silhouette, but I too have the cricut.
Any who...I just have a question for you...and I'm sure you have answered this question before. So, I apologize if this sounds repetitive...I'm just wondering how you have turned your blog into a business? Getting Sponsors and things like that. My husband finally got a job, but its not his dream job...he is in the Institute Program to become a Seminary Teacher. If he were to get hired, I know I'd have to help make a little extra money and I think this would be perfect for a Stay-at-Home mom. Just wondering if you have any tips. Because honestly, I think your blog is the best! :)

  13. AWESOME!!! I want one of these sooo bad! maybe for my birthday... dreams dreams dreams.

  14. YOu are so creative. I love this! Wish I had one.. lol

  15. Your work is wonderful! Absolutely love it!

  16. I think my Silhouette must hate me; I can’t seem to cut anything with much detail without it literally eating it and scrolly fonts, FOREGET ABOUT IT. Good to see you have good luck with it, maybe one day it will quit hating me :*(. I love your projects.

  17. Awesome work ,very inspiring ...thanks!

  18. I love your blog, and I'm wondering what font you use for "taking it one space at a time" in your banner. If you don't mind sharing, I'd really appreciate it!

Thank you for taking the time to leave your thoughts and comments. We truly love and appreciate each one!
